256 Shades of Grey is Eau Claire, Wisconsin's only avant-pop arts 'zine.
Started in January of 1995, 256 Shades of Grey began as an underground
'zine and then quickly spread (by word of mouth of course) to other
states like New York, Minnesota, and the rest of Wisconsin. The makers
of this 'zine are proud of the fact that we have kicked every
underground 'zine's butt in Wisconsin since we started, and to top it
off, we get more recognition and respect than our rival magazine, Nota,
which is afflil ated with the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire and has
been around for more than 20 years.

We continue to print, up and coming writers, artists, poets and
musicians. We enjoy the fact that we are stuck here in the middle of
the midwest with all this talent and continue to beat the odds on our
survival.
