SAFERE: Southern African Feminist Review

Publisher: Southern African Institute for Policy Studies (SARIPS) of the
SAPES Trust

The Journal SAFERE is an established academic journal within Southern Africa
and on the continent, with growing subscriptions from abroad. It is
published bi-annually by the Southern African Institute for Policy Studies
(SARIPS) of the SAPES Trust.

SAFERE provides women with a writing platform which is feminist in content
and orientation, as well as facilitating for African women to express their
ideas and interests through a medium which is supportive and encouraging of
feminist opinions and positions. The Journal is one of barely a handful of
feminist journals coming out of Africa, and through careful editing and the
collection of high quality written work, it has established itself as a
journal of world standing from the time it was first published in 1995.

Future issues of SAFERE will reflect either a specific theme or will remain
open and `eclectic' in order to accommodate the multiplicity of issues that
women scholars and activists are writing about throughout the region and at
a continental level.

SAFERE has become an important forum for the expression of feminist views on
issues, which reflect a movement beyond the notion of gender equality as it
was expressed in the early stages of the Gender program. It provides a good
indicator of the directions which the SARIPS Gender program is currently
taking at the beginning of the 2000 century.
