This online version of the print journal of the same name is published by
Academic Press, Inc. through a program titled IDEAL (International Digital
Electronic Access Library). Waste Management & Research is a bi-monthly
professional publication issued under the auspices of the ISWA, the
International Solid Wastes and Public Cleansing Association. The journal
aims to satisfy the growing demand for essential information which is of
practical value to those who are responsible for the management of all
types of waste, such as municipal, industrial, chemical, and clinical.

Waste Management & Research publishes from a broad cross section of
researchers and practitioners from academic institutions and government
bodies, engineers, regulators, and industry. The journal publishes papers
on all aspects of solid waste management with the main focus on the
discussion of solutions to problems that arise primarily from municipal
and industrial solid wastes and sludges. In particular, the scope does not
include papers on waste water (sewage) collection and treatment. In order
to achieve balanced coverage, special attention is given to papers that
help to bridge the gap between academic studies and practical operational
 problems.

 Research Areas Include:
City cleansing and management of operations
      Waste collection, treatment, and disposal
Magnitude and control of emissions, leachates, and other by-products
Effects of waste management practice on the environment, health, and
 	urban aesthetics
      New technological developments
Reviews of waste management practices in particular cities or
 	countries
      Comparative studies of competitive equipment
Corrective measures for unsatisfactory waste management practice
      Recycling
      Engineering and design
Financial aspects of resource recovery, including cases where
uneconomical measures have been taken to obtain social objectives
Waste management in low-technology areas, particularly methods
 	suitable for developing countries
Strategic waste management planning and decision-making tools

Some articles appearing in the December 1996 issue of the Journal include:
'Bio-Aerosol Exposure During Collection of Mixed Domestic Waste-An
Intervention Study on Compactor Truck Design', 'Numerical Modeeling of
Generation and Transport of Gas and Heat in Sanitary Landfills II. Model
Application', and 'Determination of Organic Parameters in Waste and
Leachates from the Hazardous Waste Landfill of Raindorf, Germany'.

Subscription to this electronic journal involves licensing agreements with
academic and industrial networks or consortia of libraries and can not be
done on a personal or even title by title basis. However, the table of
contents and article abstracts for each issue are available online
free-of-charge. Articles are provided to members of subscriber
institutions in Adobe Acrobat Portable Document Format.
