The Washingtonian is a 158,096 paid circulation magazine (audited by ABC for
six months ending December 31, 1998). Most of its readers have college
degrees; average house hold income of its readers is $120,000 a year. The
Washingtonian has one of the nation's highest subscriber rates, and sells an
average of over 50,000 copies a month on the newsstand.
The Washingtonian won National Magazine Award for Feature Writing in 1990;
for Reporting in 1987; for Public Service in 1985; for Service for the
Individual in 1985; and for reporting in 1982. It has been a finalist for a
number of other National Magazine Awards. The magazine has won the national
Sigma Delta Chi award for Public Service and many other awards from the
local Sigma Delta Chi chapter. It has been recognized in the
Penney-Missouri, National Press Club, and other competitions.
