Publisher: American Studies Program, Wayne State University
Each calendar year, two issues of Xchanges are produced. The manner in which
these journal issues are generated and the methods of evaluation for
submissions differ slightly.
In the Fall issue, Xchanges publishes the proceedings from the previous
March's Y|X Conference, which is hosted by the American Studies Program at
Wayne State University and is supported by the Rushton Endowment. The theme
for the Fall issue, then, is the same as the conference theme for that year.
Papers by students who presented work at Y|X will be published in the Fall
issue; thus, the highest-level undergraduate work will be published
alongside rigorous scholarly work by graduate students. The "exchange" of
intellectual ideas between undergraduate and graduate students is the
motivation for the Y|X project, of which the journal Xchanges is a part.
The Winter issue, published in February of each year, is an open issue with
a theme applicable to a variety of disciplines, ranging from Literature to
History to Anthropology. The intellectual standard for the Winter issue is
very high; papers are expected to reflect current trends in scholarship and
theory while posing pertinent interdisciplinary questions. Our aim is to
attract scholars from numerous universities, both nationally and
internationally, in an effort to make Xchanges a viable forum for
interdisciplinary exchange and academic scholarship of the most current
kind.
Xchanges is a journal devoted to publishing the work of determined and
forward-thinking young scholars, who may be either graduate or undergraduate
students.
