Yad Sarah

Yad Sarah, Israel's volunteer network of homecare support services, (over
6,000 volunteers in 85 branches across Israel) has launched a free
electronic newsletter. This monthly update will keep you informed of
innovations in home health care, Israeli medical news items and what's new
at Yad Sarah.

WHAT IS YAD SARAH?

Yad Sarah, the largest voluntary organization in Israel, provides a
spectrum of free or nominal cost services designed to make life easier for
sick, disabled, elderly and recuperating people and their families.

With more than 80 branches throughout Israel run by over 6,000 volunteers,
Yad Sarah saves the Israeli economy some $250,000,000 a year in
hospitalization and medical treatment costs.

Yad Sarah's mission is to keep the ill and the elderly in their homes and
out of institutions as long as possible. Home care in the natural
environment of the family is most conducive to healthy recuperation, both
physically and emotionally. It also costs both the family and the State
considerably less.

Yad Sarah's best-known service is the lending of medical and
rehabilitative equipment on a short-term basis free of charge to anyone
who needs it.

In addition, Yad Sarah provides a wide range of other services, including
transportation and day care centers for the disabled, drop-in centers and
minimum-charge dental clinics for the elderly, personal computerized
emergency alarms monitored 24 hours a day, and a grandparent sitting
service providing "time off" for caregivers.

The organization also provides equipment and services for new mothers,
infants with medical problems, recently discharged hospital patients, and
others in need.

Yad Sarah's annual budget is financed almost completely by donations, 80
per cent of which are raised within Israel. The organization receives no
government assistance.

Yad Sarah's Guidance and Exhibition Centers help handicapped people choose
the assistive devices most suitable for their individual needs, while
educating the public and professionals about the wide range of equipment
available to facilitate home care.

Approximately 250,000 Israelis use Yad Sarah's services each year.
