Adding References Manually to RefWorks


If you have a print source (book, report, email, artwork, etc.) that can not be captured via the web, then you can add it manually to your RefWorks account. When inputting information manually remember to add all essential pieces of information in order to create a useful citation.

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Sign in to RefWorks
  2. In tool bar, choose References, and select Add New Reference
  3. Select a style format from the drop-down menu
  4. Save to a Folder (existing folder or create a new one) (Where is it?)
  5. Select a Ref Type
  6. Select a Source type (Print or Electronic)
  7. Add the elements of the record to the AccuCite form in RefWorks, by filling in the form boxes with the green check mark next to the box. The Green checkmarks are next to the fields used in the selected Style Format
  8. Add your Notes, Descriptors, and any attachments (optional)
  9. Click on Save Reference at the top of the screen. Save frequently!
  10. When completed, Choose Save Reference or Save & Add New to continuing inputting references to folder
