Search Engines

Search engines allow you to find specific keywords and phrases on the Internet.  There is no one perfect search engine; each may retrieve different results.  For best results, use more than one search engine.  Don't forget to use a search engine's advanced search option if you want images, sound files, pages in a particular language, or other distinct types of web pages. For more information, consult the HELP screens of each search engine, or see Search Engine Showdown. This excellent web page provides search engine comparisons, features charts, reviews, and news.

Here is a list of some of the most popular search engines:

A9
AltaVista
Ask.com
Clusty

Google
MSN Search
Wisenut
Yahoo!

For a thorough list of available search engines, try SearchEngines.com. Also, Search Engine Colossus provides links to country-specific search engines, from Abkhazia to Zimbabwe.
