A laser cutter can be used to cut and engrave wood, acrylic, metal, paper, fabric, and other materials with extreme precision. In this hands-on workshop, participants will learn the basics of operating the Maker Hub's Universal VLS 4.60 Laser Cutter. This includes basic design in Adobe Illustrator, how to send files to the laser cutter, choosing a material, and adjusting cut settings. Participants will also learn about various open-source websites for generating laser cutter files. Upon completion of the workshop, participants will have all the skills necessary to prepare files for and set up the laser cutter. Please be aware that this workshop does not qualify you to start laser cuts. Only Maker Hub Volunteers who have completed the two part Laser Safety Training are allowed to start cut jobs on the laser cutter. Note: Close-toed shoes must be worn in the Maker Hub. Please see the Maker Hub Policies and Procedures webpage for all Maker Hub rules.
