Join us for an exciting pop-up event at the Maker Hub, where you can explore the intersections of human creativity and AI-generated art! These hands-on sessions provide a space for participants to create artworks using AI tools and human expression while reflecting on questions of authorship, ownership, and artistic value. Whether you’re curious about the ethical implications of AI in art or eager to experiment with new tools, this is a perfect opportunity to engage, create, and share your perspective. We will provide art materials and snacks.
Win up to $265 for generating artworks with Dall-E and participate in a PAID research study on the perception of AI-generated art! Members of the campus community and those from local institutions are invited to sign up to participate in the show as entrants (creating art for consideration in the competition) or peer jurors (evaluating the artistic creations)! Your responses will help inform future law and policy making decisions on rights and protection granted to AI-generated art.
The competition will culminate in an exhibition in the Georgetown University Lauinger Library Community Galleries in April 2025. Pieces selected for the exhibition will be evaluated both by peer jurors and by a panel of expert judges.
This project is organized by an interdisciplinary team of Georgetown University students – Cecile Duncan (Law), Wisdom Obinna (Computer Science), and Judy Wang (Art); Georgetown university faculty – Kristelia García (Law), Elissa Redmiles (Computer Science) and Toni-Lee Sangastiano (Art); and their collaborators Gabriel Lima and Nina Grgić-Hlača at the Max Planck Society in Germany.
Funding: This work is supported by a generous grant from Georgetown University’s Initiative on Pedagogical Uses of AI (IPAI) and the Fritz Family Fellowship. IRB protocol number: STUDY00008594.
Additional Partners and Support: Georgetown University Lauinger Library’s Maker Hub and the Digital Scholarship Services Unit, the Massive Data Institute (MDI), Center for New Designs in Learning and Scholarship (CNDLS)
