Georgetown University Archives Celebrates its 200th Anniversary

The Georgetown University Library is celebrating the 200th Anniversary of the Georgetown University Archives. On Thursday, April 21 at 6:00 p.m. the Library will host a special event to mark the occasion. University Librarian Artemis G. Kirk will be joined by Georgetown President John J. DeGioia, United States Archivist David S. Ferriero, and Georgetown University Archivist Lynn Conway who will provide remarks on the importance of the history preserved in the Georgetown University Archives which is thought to be one of the oldest university archives in the country. Following the program guests will be invited to tour the accompanying exhibition For the Record...200 Years of Collecting Georgetown's History to view some of the most special items in the archives, debunk common Georgetown myths, and handle some of the more unconventional pieces in the collection. Guests will also have an opportunity to share memories and stories at the reception. The Library looks forward to celebrating this special part of Georgetown that preserves the landmark events in Georgetown’s history but also captures the unique experience of being a Hoya yesterday, today, and for generations to come.
