Library Staff Achievements and Professional Involvement, 2021–22

In addition to providing service to Georgetown University students and faculty, our librarians and Library staff are active contributors to the profession of librarianship. Below are some of the publications, presentations, and other professional achievements from the 2021–22 academic year.

Library Staff Achievement Awards

The following Library employees received the Library’s Staff Achievement Awards, which were awarded in June after a 3-year hiatus.

  • Steve Fernie, web services coordinator: Dean’s Award, honoring leadership of an individual resulting in the advancement of library goals and objectives; a significant accomplishment that had a positive impact on the library, the campus, or the profession; or creativity and/or innovations that enhanced library services, operations, or the image of the library.
  • Michael Singletary, computer support coordinator; Miriam Harris, acquisitions specialist; and Ann Galloway, assistant archivist: Lauinger Library Award, honoring the work of an individual to recognize significant accomplishments that had a positive impact on divisional goals and objectives; a contribution to the department, division or library that resulted in cost savings, streamlined processes, enhanced services; contributions of time and/or extra effort to successfully implement a project or program or an unsung hero/heroine whose contribution has gone unnoticed but continually helps support the work of the library.
  • The Access Services Department: Jeff Popovich, circulation/reserves supervisor; Dana Aronowitz; resource sharing services supervisor; Peter Hanssen, access specialist; Glen Yakushiji, media equipment coordinator; and Patty Martin, technical services manager: Team Spirit Award, honoring a team, a committee or task force (any formal group) by recognizing the completion and successful implementation of a specific task or project that had a positive impact on the unit, department, division or library in the way of cost savings, streamlined processes, and/or enhanced services. This award will be shared among team members.
  • Margie Kirschbaum, metadata specialist: Kindred Spirit Award, honoring an individual for contributions to the campus community including community service contributions that had a positive impact on the core mission of the university or furthered the role of the library on campus. Collaborations with other campus departments and/or personnel that enhance the library's image and/or role as an educational partner.
