As a scholar of the carnivalesque and an internationally exhibiting artist, Dr. Toni-Lee Sangastiano studies the postmodern sideshow's American and European processional origins, and its relevance to contemporary language, aesthetics, media, and advertising. She is a Digital Media Specialist and Assistant Professor of the Practice in Studio Art and Digital Media in the Art & Art History Department of Georgetown University, where she teaches visual communication, design, and art courses. Dr. Sangastiano is passionate about hybrid artistic processes that blend fine art and design with technology such as the Maker Hub. She is a core faculty member in Georgetown's Medical Humanities Initiative, and she also conducts research with its Massive Data Institute through a unique partnership using neural nets and machine learning to recognize hard-to-find sideshow banners in archival databases worldwide.
