Rare Books in DigitalGeorgetown

The Woodstock Theological Library has a rare book collection comprised of over 17,500 titles, focused largely on 15th through 19th century counter-reformational and American theological works. The rare book collection began its life as the main collection for the Woodstock College, a Jesuit seminary in existence from 1869 - 1974, and is one of the premier repositories for Catholic Studies and Jesuitica in America.

Holdings include all four of the great polyglot bibles, the first edition of the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius (the only other copy in American hands outside of the Library of Congress), the first edition of the Book of Mormon, a first printing of the map of the moon, Almagestum Novum,  by Italian Jesuit Riccioli (1656), a first edition of Pseudo-Martyr (the first book published by John Donne - 1610), and many other rare theological and scientific titles. Woodstock has digitized a selection of books from its rare book collection, which can be found at DigitalGeorgetown.

The technical services department of the library has put together a digital visualization site that provides an overview of Woodstock's special collections. Using the metadata from cataloging, the site visualizes the collection according to date and location published, and the subject matter.
