The Maker Hub has several different types of hand saws available for use. Here is a guide to help you make sure you choose the correct saw for the job:
- Hand saw - This saw is used for making rough cuts through wood. The cutting action occurs on the push stroke, allowing you to put your weight behind the cut.

- Back saw - This saw has a stiffening rib on the edge opposite the cutting edge, enabling better control and more precise cutting than with other types of saws. Backsaws are normally used for precise work, such as cutting joinery.

- Japanese saw - A Japanese saw consists of a strong and narrow blade attached to a handle at one end. These are designed to cut on the pull motion, unlike most other saws that cut on the push motion. The benefit of this is a cleaner and narrower cut.

- Hack saw - The hack saw was created to cut through metal, and due to its thin blade, it works well to cut through thin materials such as plastic or metal pipes.
