Join the Georgetown community to help close the gender gap on Wikipedia by increasing the representation of underrepresented groups — in both Wikipedia content and contributors — on topics such as women in politics, women in STEM, and women in the arts.
Did you know that:
- Only 13% of Wikipedia editors identify as women?
- Only 20% of biographies on English Wikipedia are about women? Writing just one woman's biography on Wikipedia will have a downstream effect because it will be picked up by tons of other wikis around the world, it will also be used in future publications.
- Efforts are happening around the world to Celebrate Women and to close the gender gap in the Wikimedia projects?
No Wikipedia editing experience necessary to attend the Georgetown Edit-a-thon. There will be hands-on training provided by representatives from Wikimedia District of Columbia.
- Bring your own laptop.
- Snacks will be provided.
- Raffle prizes throughout the event!
