Please join us for a reception and guided tour of Georgetown University Libraries’ Booth Family Center for Special Collections (BFCSC), featuring materials that highlight Black history. This event is co-sponsored by the Georgetown University Library and the Georgetown University Diaspora (GUD).
The event will begin with a reception with refreshments and remarks in the Library’s Murray Room that features sweeping views of the Potomac River. Library curators and archivists will provide a guided tour of rare books, manuscripts, art, and University records that reflect the African-American experience. Attendees can view such works as a rare first edition of the poetry of Phyllis Wheatley, a 19th century printing of the memoir of abolitionist and civil rights leader Frederick Douglass, musical scores by composer Margaret Bonds, playbills and published works by the playwright August Wilson, and the visually stunning prints of artists Faith Ringgold and Judy Bowman.
