Alan Aldridge was a prominent British illustrator known for his album covers for the Beatles, The Who and Elton John in the 1960s and ‘70s. His cosmic designs in rainbow colors typify the graphic style of the psychedelic era. Aldridge also served as fiction art director at Penguin Books, creating covers for several science fiction titles. In 1968 he founded his own graphic design firm, INK. The two-volume Beatles Illustrated Lyrics is one of his best-known books with illustrations provided by Aldridge and other artists. The cover of volume one features a design based on the frontispiece for the anthropomorphic Fleurs Animées (Animated Flowers) by J.J. Grandville.
