A newly renovated Pierce Reading Room will welcome students back in January 2026, unveiling dramatically expanded study space, modern furnishings, and a state-of-the-art digital lab and video wall.
After more than a year of construction, the transformed Pierce Reading Room on Lauinger Library’s third floor will reopen when students return from the holiday break in early January. The space will officially open to the public on January 7, 2026, with a grand opening celebration scheduled for Jan. 28.
“The reopening of the Pierce Reading Room marks an important moment for our community,” said Alexia Hudson-Ward, Dean of the Library. “This revitalized space reflects our commitment to creating spaces that truly support student learning and faculty scholarship —places where focus, collaboration, and innovation can thrive. As we look to continue improving our library, the Pierce Reading Room stands as a meaningful example of how we’re adapting our spaces to improve the ways students study, create, and connect in their education journeys.”
The renovation project has created a reimagined study environment designed to meet the evolving needs of Georgetown’s academic community. The expanded footprint now includes a mix of study areas; small group collaboration rooms; and a brand-new Visualization and Learning Lab featuring a large-format video wall that supports interactive teaching, digital scholarship, and special events.
