Staff Spotlight: Meet Scott Tyson

  1. Name, job title, and location. Scott Tyson, Senior Software Developer. I’m based in Lauinger Library.
  2. What do you do—in 10 words or less? I develop and maintain software applications for the Library.
  3. Where are you from? I grew up in Bethesda, Maryland, a few miles north of campus.
  4. Do you have any hobbies? I enjoy listening to music, cooking, and cross-country skiing in the winter.
  5. What are you reading/watching/playing/listening to/learning right now? I’m reading Zero to One: Notes on Startups, or How to Build the Future, listening to Thievery Corporation, and playing chess.
  6. If you had to live in a different time period, which would you pick and why? I’d like to live during the Renaissance around great inventors and artists like Leonardo da Vinci.
  7. What is your favorite thing about Georgetown? My favorite thing about Georgetown is the kind people. I also love our stunning views of the Potomac.
  8. Is there anything from the past that you wish would come back into fashion? I’d like to see eighteenth-century letter writing come back. Using ink and quill for long-form correspondence sounds impractical but fun.
  9. What's your strategy for enjoying summer? Be one with H2O! In the summer, I hydrate almost excessively and swim whenever possible.
  10. If you didn’t work in your current field, what would you be doing? I’d be a farmer so that I could spend plenty of time outdoors in the countryside.
