Submit Today! Library Accepting Proposals for Future Exhibitions

A young Black woman and others view a library exhibit.

Have an idea for a future exhibition to go on display in Lauinger Library? We want to hear it! In an effort to encourage partnership and collaboration, the Lauinger Library Exhibitions Committee is soliciting exhibition proposals from Georgetown students, faculty, and staff.

The Committee reviews proposals for exhibitions that draw attention to our collections and expand our teaching and research mission. We request proposals in advance to allow for planning and collaboration. The library’s exhibition spaces have different thematic parameters as explained in the list below.

  • Fairchild Gallery and Special Collections Gallery on the fifth floor: dedicated to exhibitions from the permanent collection of the Booth Family Center for Special Collections (BFCSC).
  • Leon Robbin Gallery in the fifth-floor reception lobby of the BFCSC, dedicated to music-themed exhibitions of materials from the BFCSC.
  • Fourth Floor Community Gallery, dedicated to exhibits of student artwork.
  • Second Floor Community Gallery, dedicated to work created by students that has a broad appeal to diverse communities and inspires student engagement.
  • Gelardin New Media Center display space, dedicated to showcasing work created by students, faculty or staff across the Georgetown community, or independent collections that complement programs or coursework offered at Georgetown and support Georgetown research strengths.

If interested in overseeing or co-curating an exhibition, please submit the following forms:

We host opening receptions, gallery talks, symposia and other events related to exhibitions. We are always interested in partnering with campus departments, students, and colleagues to develop new and noteworthy exhibitions and host events that build cross-campus partnerships.

Some examples of exhibitions and partnerships include:

  • The exhibition on poet Paul Muldoon in collaboration with the Department of Global Irish Studies. A reception was held in April attended by the Irish Ambassador to the United States, a Muldoon scholar, and the wife of the poet.
  • Mary Beth Corrigan and Beth Marhanka partnered with Professor Adam Rothman and his student assistant Isabel Corvington to exhibit student artwork for the exhibit in the 4th floor Community Gallery entitled Facing Georgetown’s History Through Art. There was a reception in the Library in June.
  • The Library partnered with the student photography club to mount a juried exhibition of members’ photographs in the Gelardin New Media Center. Prizes were awarded at the opening reception in May.
  • History Department PhD Candidate João Sodré curated an exhibition of photographs from his father’s recently-donated archive. A Friday Music Series concert accompanied the exhibition.
  • Elizabeth Prelinger, Keyser Family Professor of Art History, Department of Art and Art History, curated an exhibition of over 100 objects from all units of Special Collections commemorating World War I
