Opening Reception for Rhythms of Resistance and Resilience Exhibition

Large mural of a black man wearing a post office uniform playing a saxaphone

Please join us on September 25 at 4:00 PM for the opening reception of Rhythms of Resistance and Resilience: How Black Washingtonians Used Music and Sports in the Fight for Equality, an exhibition of photos and stories from Professor Maurice Jackson’s book of the same title.

This event will be a celebration of the Black musicians and athletes who have overcome segregation and inequality to bring pride and joy to Washington, D.C., and the nation. Several speakers, including Professor Jackson, will provide remarks, and music will be provided by a Jazz combo. Refreshments will be served.

The exhibition will be on display from September 9 to January 12. We welcome everyone at Georgetown University and the larger DMV community to visit the exhibit and to join us for the reception.
Directions, parking, and maps for the Hilltop campus and the Joseph Mark Lauinger Library.

The Library is grateful to Georgetown University’s Office of the President, the Georgetown University Music Program, Department of History, Georgetown Humanities Initiative, and Georgetown Athletics for co-sponsoring the reception. The photograph of the mural of Washington, D.C. musician Buck Hill was taken by Ron Cogswell.
