Please join us on Thursday, October 1, 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm for a Library event entitled “Culturas Unbound: National Hispanic Heritage Month and Georgetown’s Special Collections.” The afternoon event will be held in the Booth Family Center for Special Collections on the 5th floor of Lauinger Library.
This pop-up exhibition introduces you to this rich history and culture by examining Georgetown holdings in rare books, art, manuscripts, and University records—including the 16th-century masterpiece Rhetorica christiana by Diego Valadés with engravings of pre-colonial Tonochtitlan, an artist book by Maria Carolina Ceballos written in Spanish and English reflecting on disability and book conservation, artisanal posters from La Linterna in Cali, Colombia, records related to the first Latin American student, who arrived from Cuba in 1793, a photograph of the Club Hispano Americano in 1929, and new acquisitions from the Mexican-born artist Enrique Chagoya,
Don’t forget to also stop by the Kerbs Gallery on the 3rd floor of Lau for our companion exhibit to this year’s 2026 Marino title: "You Dreamed of Empires" by Mexican author Álvaro Enrigue. The exhibit offers a glimpse into the history, culture, and language of Tenochtitlan (present-day Mexico City).
