In observance of the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001, the Georgetown University Library is hosting a series of commemorative events and exhibitions honoring the history, human stories, and lasting impact of the tragedy.
Exhibitions & Events Marking the 25th Anniversary
- Spotlight Case: "25 Years Since 9/11:
A Flashback with The New Yorker Magazine" Curated by LuLen Walker on the fifth floor near the main doors of the Booth Family Center, this exhibition centers on the iconic September 24, 2001 cover "9/11/2001" by Art Spiegelman and Françoise Mouly. The display highlights the stark, black-on-black cover art alongside original articles and photos capturing the immediate aftermath of the attacks.
- Digital Exhibition: "September 11, 2001: Georgetown in the Aftermath"
Curated by University Archivist Lynn Conway, this digital exhibition explores campus life in the wake of 9/11. The collection brings together archival campus updates from President DeGioia, library and campus photography, local newspaper features, and primary documents from both formal memorials and informal gatherings of grief and solidarity.
- Documentary Screening: Rebirth
When: September 17 at 3:00 PM
Where: Pierce Reading Room
This screening features the Peabody Award-winning 2011 documentary Rebirth, which tracks the physical transformation of Ground Zero and the multi-year healing journeys of five people directly impacted by the attacks on the World Trade Center Twin Towers. - Panel Discussion: "25 Years After September 11, Lessons From America’s War on Terror"

Where: Pierce Reading Room
Hosted by the Booth Family Center, this panel discussion brings together leading counterterrorism practitioners, scholars, and analysts to reflect on 9/11 as a historic turning point and analyze how its reverberations continue to shape global security and American society today. The panel includes: Peter Bergen (journalist, author, and documentarian), Bruce Hoffman, Ph.D. (Georgetown University, School of Foreign Service), Tricia Bacon, Ph.D. (American University), and Jen Easterly (CEO of RSAC). Peter Bergen will serve as facilitator and will be asking the panelists a series of questions. Mr. Bergen recently donated his 30+ years of reporting on the war on terror to Georgetown.
