Medstar employees (ME) have limited borrowing privileges at Lauinger, Blommer Science, and Bioethics Libraries. All Medstar employees must present their Medstar ID for library entry and to check out books. (If you have an old Medstar ID without a photo please bring with your a valid, government-issued photo ID: you will need both to access the building and to borrow books.) Privileges are non-transferrable, and Medstar faculty cannot set up proxy library accounts.
Number of Books
An ME may have a maximum of six books checked out at one time from any combination of the libraries.
Lost or Damaged Materials
A patron with lost or damaged materials may (1) pay a $110 replacement fee, or (2) bring a copy of the item to the Lauinger Service Desk for replacement consideration by the Library. If accepted, there will be a $30 processing fee.
MedStar Employees May Not
- Borrow course reserves at Blommer and Lauinger.
- Borrow equipment from Lauinger Library.
- Use the Picchi Multimedia Room or the Multimedia Editing Rooms.
- Have off-campus access to most Lauinger and Blommer databases and online journals.
- Use Lauinger's Interlibrary Loan service.
- Have access to any Main Campus Libraries' consortia (i.e. WRLC).

Renew Your Items
You may renew your books up to three times if they have not been requested by another borrower. After a book has been renewed the third time it must be physically taken to the library where it can be checked-in and out for a new cycle.
Books and media can be renewed online through HoyaSearch from the My Library Account option, by phone at (202) 687-7607, in person at the Lauinger Service Desk, or by responding to the electronic overdue notice.
