Eighth Note, Half Note

This piece, Eighth Note Half Note, was created for a collaboration between ReStitch and Added to the File. ReStitch is a part of REUSE that focuses on mending clothing for students and upcycling fashion. Added to the File is an on-campus fashion magazine. ReStitch and Added to the File enjoy working together to demonstrate that upcycled and sustainable fashion have a place in high fashion. We were given the concept of the photoshoot and had creative freedom for the designs. The prompt was to design two dresses inspired by classical music and the shape of music notes. ReStitch collaboratively worked to settle on designs, incorporating many of our ideas. One dress was made from old t-shirts; we used cutouts and structure to evoke the shape of an eighth note. For the second dress, we made the bodice of the dress by creating essentially a mold of the mode, and then we used papier mâché on the custom mold. For the skirt, we crumpled the sheet music, then taped it together and pleated it. We worked in the makerhub and used a few of the supplies like glue, tape, and ribbon. The whole process would not have been possible without the MakerHub and the space it provides for creativity.
