Four Witnesses, Four Lies, One Life Sentence: The Story of Demonta Chappell

This eight-minute documentary centers on Demonta Chappell, a 33-year-old man from Washington D.C., who has been wrongfully incarcerated since 2014 after being charged with first-degree murder for a crime he did not commit. The film has two main goals: to expose the weaknesses in the case against Demonta and demonstrate his innocence, and to highlight who he is as a person — someone who, despite his circumstances, has remained kind, loving, funny, and hopeful. Our hope is that this documentary helps his voice, and his story, finally be heard.

This documentary is the culmination of a months-long reinvestigation process through the "Making an Exoneree" course at Georgetown University. As a team, we have had essentially no prior filmmaking experience. We are super proud of ourselves both on the filming side of the process and the editing!
